The Tennessee men's track team, following two top-10 NCAA finishes last season, released its 2007 schedule Wednesday.
The Vols will compete twice at home during the outdoor season, first hosting the 41st annual Sea Ray Relays April 11-15 and then the Smoky Mountain Men's Twilight meet on May 1. All home meets are contested on campus at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
Tennessee opens the indoor season Dec. 2 in Clemson S.C., at the Clemson All-Comers. After a break for the holidays, the Vols travel to Bloomington, Ind. for their first meet of 2007, the Indiana All-Comers on Jan. 6. Tennessee will then compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg Va., Jan. 12-13.
The Vols get a first-hand glance at the track that will be hosting the SEC Indoor Championships when they travel to Lexington, Ky., Jan. 19-20 for the Kentucky Invitational. Tennessee will then travel to New York for the historic Armory Collegiate Invitational, held at the Armory Feb. 2-3. Tennessee will end its indoor regular season Feb. 16-17 in Blacksburg, Va., at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
Tennessee begins the championship portion of the indoor season by traveling to Lexington, Ky., Feb. 23-26 for the SEC Indoor Championships. Last year, the Vols scored 106 points and finished second at the conference indoor meet. The indoor season will conclude in Fayetteville, Ark., March 9-10 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where the Vols scored 25 points to earn a fifth-place finish in 2006, the team's highest finish at the meet since placing fifth in 2003.
After the indoor season, Tennessee kicks off the outdoor season March 17 in Miami at the Miami Invitational. The Vols will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Alabama Relays March 24-25 and take a look at the host track for the SEC Outdoor Championships. The Vols then compete in Atlanta March 31 at the Georgia Tech Invitational before returning home to host the Sea Ray Relays.
The Vols will stay in the state after the Sea Ray Relays, traveling to Nashville April 20-21 for the Vanderbilt Invitational. Tennessee will then make its only out-of-state trip during the month, traveling to Philadelphia April 26-28 for the Penn Relays. Last year, Tennessee won its 15th Penn Relays title in the shuttle hurdle relay, more than twice as many as any other school. The Vols will then return home to conclude their regular season with the Smoky Mountain Men's Twilight on May 1.
The Vols travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., May 10-13 to begin the championship portion of the schedule with the SEC Outdoor Championships. Tennessee finished second at the conference championship meet last year, scoring 126.5 points. Columbia, Mo., will serve as the host city for the Mideast Regionals May 25-26. Tennessee finished second last year with home-track advantage, putting 52.25 points on the scoreboard. The Vols will then head west for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, held June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif. Tennessee scored 32 points to place sixth in last year's national championship meet.
A select group of individuals will extend the season past NCAA championships and travel to Indianapolis, Ind., June 21-24 for the USA Outdoor and Junior Championships.
