KNOXVILLE NATIVE ROSS COX TO TURN PRO

Ross Cox, a sophomore member of the Tennessee men's golf team announced Tuesday that he plans to forego the rest of his college eligibility and turn professional.
"It has been a lifelong ambition of Ross's to become a playing professional," head men's golf coach Jim Kelson said. "He simply could not wait to begin pursuing his dream.
"Ross Cox is a wonderful young man that was proud to be a member of the Tennessee athletics family. He always displayed a great deal of heart and determination. In closing, we would all like to wish Ross the very best in his professional career," Kelson concluded.
Cox saw action in seven tournaments and lettered as a freshman during the 2003-04 season. His best finish was a tie for 17th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, where he shot a 216. Cox also shot a 218 to finish in a tie for 29th at the NCAA East Regional.
A Knoxville native and the 2001 Class AAA individual champion at Farragut High School, Cox redshirted during the 2004-05 season.
Cox plans to attempt to qualify for the NGA Hooter's Professional Men's Golf Tour in Orlando, Fla.
