The Tennessee men's swimming and diving program's summer club team, Tennessee Aquatics, finished sixth in the overall men's standings Sunday at the 2005 ConocoPhillips National Championships in Irvine, Calif.
"We finished a tremendous summer of training and racing with a sixth-place finish at the U.S. championships," UT head coach John Trembley said. "It has been a long time since we placed as high at an outdoor long-course meet. This performance is a testament to the effort and determination of our team.
"We finished ahead of some great programs such as rivals Florida, Georgia and defending NCAA and SEC champs Auburn. The future looks great for this Tennessee team. We are back on track.
On the final day of competition, led by junior Brad Boswell, Vol representatives finished fifth in the 400 medley relay in 3:46.64. Following Boswell were former Vol Andrew Bree, sophomore Octavio Alesi and senior Tyler Gustafson.
Alesi also finished 11th in the 50 free in 23.23.
Senior Bryan Golberg competed individually Sunday with an eighth-place finish in the 200 I.M. in 2:07.63.
