INCOMING FRESHMAN SHOWE WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Incoming freshman Burkley Showe won the 2005 Speedo Junior National Championship on the 3-meter board Thursday in Indianapolis, Ind.
Showe topped the 600-point barrier with a winning score of 601.23 - more than 16 points higher than second place.
"I am really thrilled to be able to watch Burkley end his junior national career with such a great performance," UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "He won a very exciting contest that came down to the final dive and he really smoked it to pull away.
"He competed in such a fine manner and it showed that he will fulfill the tradition of Tennessee divers to be able to end a competition the way he did.
Showe's win earns him a spot on the U.S. Junior National team that will compete later this fall at the Junior PanAm Games.
