Showe Places Fourth at U.S. Nationals

Incoming freshman Burkley Showe placed fourth Friday on the 3-meter springboard in Huntsville, N.C., at the 2005 Speedo U.S. National Diving Championships.

Showe finished fourth behind a pair of Olympians in Justin Dumais and Troy Dumais along with former Vol and international competitor Jevon Tarantino. Showe's score of 593.25 was less than 22 points behind Tarantino.

"Burkley's fourth-place finish is an outstanding achievement for an incoming freshman," UT head coach Dave Parrington said. "Considering the competition ahead of him in two Olympians and Jevon who is an seasoned veteran himself, his performance is even more impressive."

Next up for Showe is the Junior Pan Am Diving Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Aug. 24-28.
