KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--Sarah McCall, a three-time All-American swimmer from Knoxville, Tenn., has signed a letter of intent to compete with the Big Orange, Lady Vol Head Coach Matt Kredich announced on Tuesday. McCall's inking adds to a stellar 2005-06 recruiting class for the Orange and White, which now stands at nine individuals.
"Sarah is one of the top breaststrokers and IM'ers in this year's senior class, and is known throughout Tennessee for her toughness," Kredich said. "It says a lot for the future of the program for us to have a swimmer from Pilot Aquatics choose to become a Lady Vol.
"We are thrilled that she has chosen to stay close to home and swim for UT. Sarah is going to have a big impact on our team because she is so versatile, such a great competitor, and such an outstanding person."
McCall is the state record holder in the 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and was a member of the 200 medley relay squad which toppled the state standard. She was named the 2005 High School Female Swimmer of the Year in the Volunteer State and guided Bearden High School to the crown. McCall picked up four varsity letters and served as team captain for two years.
She was a three-time state champion in the 200 IM (2002, '04 and '05), two-time winner in the 100 breaststroke ('04 and '05) and once as a member of her squad's 200 medley relay ('05).
McCall also experienced success in the classroom, as she was named a Scholastic All-American in 2005 en route to graduating with honors. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.
