KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee Head Women's Swimming Coach Matt Kredich completed his staff Thursday, announcing the hiring of assistant Jennifer Arndt of Lewis University. She will assume her duties in June.
"Jennifer Arndt is one of the brightest young coaches in the college ranks today. Her competitive swimming and coaching experience make her an ideal candidate for this position," said Kredich. "She is an excellent communicator and she has a fantastic educational background. She has done a phenomenal job with both men and women at Lewis, and I believe her head coaching experience will allow her to come in immediately and help me promote and implement a shared vision for bringing the Lady Vol Swimming and Diving program to national prominence."
Arndt comes to Knoxville after three seasons as the head coach for both the men's and women's swimming programs at Lewis. At the Romeoville, Ill., school, she continued the success of the squads by implementing an extensive conditioning and tapering schedule that raised the level of performance by the student-athletes. In her three years at the helm of the Flyers, she guided five of her swimmers to 10 All-America performances, including both the first and second male All-Americans in school history.
Arndt served on the NCAA Swimming and Diving Rules Committee and the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Executive Board as the NCAA Division II representative for women's swimming, doing so from September 2004 to the present.
Her other responsibilities at Lewis included acting as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Moderator, serving as the athletics department's liaison to student services, and filling a role as director of Student-Athlete Health and Wellness. Additionally, Arndt introduced a CHAMPS/Life Skills program sponsored by the NCAA.
She joined Lewis following an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Michigan, where she swam four years for the Wolverines, helping the squad bring home Big Ten championships in 1997, 1998 and 2001. She demonstrated her leadership qualities by serving as a co-captain in 1999-2000 and earned All-Big Ten honors in 1997, 1999 and 2001.
Arndt also had success in the classroom while in Ann Arbor, garnering Michigan's Academic Achievement Award and was honored by the Big Ten in 1997, 1999 and 2001.
A key member of Michigan Peer Advisors Creating Trust (M-PACT), Arndt served as a chairperson and worked to support more than 700 student-athletes in their quest to overcome personal challenges. She also led workshops and training sessions.
Arndt also managed to be involved with the Student Leadership Forum, where she established and served as student facilitator to coordinate monthly meetings with the athletics director, administrators and student-athletes in effort to create a relationship between the three parties.
She is a 2001 graduate from the University of Michigan, with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology.
