KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Picking up her second award in as many days, University of Tennessee long jumper Tianna Madison has been named the Southeastern Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.
Madison, who collected USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday, received her first SEC Outdoor AOTW accolade in 2005 and posted her second conference recognition of the season after garnering indoor esteem the second week of February.
The product of Elyria, Ohio, charted a measurement of 22 feet, 4 1/2 inches in the long jump on her first attempt of the outdoor season to claim victory at the Gatorade Classic in Knoxville on April 9. Her mark set both meet and school records and qualified her for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet in Bloomington, Ind., on May 27-28.
In addition to her jumping prowess, Madison also charted a career best in the 100-meter dash, where she finished third in a time of 11.41. That effort also earned her a lane in that event at the regional meet.
Madison and her teammates will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Sea Ray Relays at Tom Black Track. Admission is free.
