ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer diving team finished the Bulldog Invitational with a fine showing, as sophomore Vicky Linnell claimed second place in the platform competition on Sunday.
"Overall I was very pleased," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "It was a very encouraging job on the platform by everyone. Vicky Linnell performed a few dives that she had not done in more than a year. Lauren LeRoy turned in the best platform of her career, and Staley McCartney had a really great performance as well."
Linnell, from Prospect, South Australia, compiled a total of 210.20 points to snare runner-up honors. She nearly earned the championship, as UCLA's Tess Schofield held on for the event title with a score of 212.85.
Classmate Lauren LeRoy (Oshkosh, Wis.) established a career high from the 10-meter board by recording a readout of 199.33. The effort lifted LeRoy to a seventh-place finish. Rookie Staley McCartney (Knoxville, Tenn.) also registered the best sum in her time at Rocky Top with a total of 179.00. She brought home ninth place.
Tennessee is now idle until Jan. 7, 2006 when it welcomes Big Ten conference foe Northwestern to Knoxville for a dual meet.
