KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's cross country team, which has won the past three Southeastern Conference trophies and four NCAA South Regional crowns in a row, will head to next Monday's NCAA Championships as the 15th-ranked team in the land, according to today's final FinishLynx/NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Poll of the season.
The Lady Vols garnered one more point than in the previous ballot, but Head Coach J.J. Clark's squad remained in the same position as in the Nov. 1 poll. SEC comrades Arkansas and Georgia also made the NCAA field and stand at No. 16 and No. 28, respectively, in the latest rankings.
Duke continued to top the charts, with the No. 1 Blue Devils grabbing 12 first-place votes to tally 389 points. Stanford (377), Michigan (365), Notre Dame (347) and Arizona State (341) closed out the top five. The Cardinal earned the only other first-place nod.
Tennessee, after defeating 23 opponents at the South Regional over the weekend, now boasts a program-best won-lost record of 122-5 as it heads to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Championship meet on Nov. 12. Clark, who stands at 401-95-1 (.808) in four seasons in Knoxville, will be seeking an improvement over last season's 21st-place performance at the NCAA meet.
Race time next Monday for the UT women is 1:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
