The Tennessee men's golf team is ranked No. 2 in the latest rankings released by Golfweek, for its highest ranking since being ranked No. 1 last October.
The rating system is based on a mathematical formula that uses a team or player's won-lost-tied record against other players when they play on the same course on the same day, and the stroke differential between those players, then links all players to one another based on common opponents.
The Vols opened the season by winning the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions at Holston Hills. UT set numerous tournament records including shattering, by 22 shots, the previous record for low three-round score by carding an 818. In the second tournament of the season, The Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, Tennessee finished second, one stroke behind LSU.
Sophomore Jonathan Mount is ranked No. 11 in collegiate player rankings. The Kingston native finished in a tie for first place individually at Shoal Creek. At the TOC, Mount finished in a tie for fourth.
Other Vols ranked among the top individuals include Lloyd Campbell at No. 33 and Philip Pettitt at No. 38. Campbell and Pettitt finished tied for top individual honors at the Tournament of Champions.
Tennessee returns to action Oct. 15-16 when it travels to Jonesborough, Tenn., to compete in The Ridges Intercollegiate.
