KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Juniors Victoria Jones (Tyne & Wear, U.K.) and Blakeley Griffith (Middleburg, Va.) of the University of Tennessee women's tennis team will travel cross-country to compete in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The tournament is hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club from Oct. 4-9.
The qualifying rounds take place from Oct. 4-5 as 64 players will be paired down to eight who will join the seeded players in the main draw from Oct. 6-9. Updated brackets can be found at www.itatennis.com.
Jones is set to compete against Zuzana Cerna of Baylor in the round of 64 at 9 a.m. PDT on Tuesday. A win would move the junior to the round of 32 against the winner of the match between Pepperdine's Caroline Raba and Purdue's Randi Schuler at 12:30 p.m. The winner of that contest advances to Wednesday's action.
Griffith will face UCLA's Tracy Lin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner takes on either Purdue's Sufi Hala or Cristina Visico of Cal at 2 p.m. with the winner moving on to Wednesday's action as well.
Griffith and Jones both reached the 20-win mark in 2004-05 as Jones finished her sophomore season 27-10, the best individual record on the team. Griffith ended her campaign with a 20-14 mark.
Following this week's action, the Lady Vols return to the courts at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships from Oct. 13-17 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
