The No. 15 Tennessee men's swimming team travels to Gainesville, Fla., Saturday to battle the No. 2 Florida Gators at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium for a 1 p.m. start.
"There is no greater rivalry than Florida and Tennessee swimming dating back to the early 1960s," UT head coach John Trembley said. "Florida is our traditional rival and we are theirs."
The Vols will return to Gainesville Feb. 11-13 for the SEC Diving Championships and Feb. 16-19 for the SEC Swimming Championships. This trip will give the Vols a better feel for the environment and water before returning.
"We are down a little and will not bring great numbers nor necessarily our greatest team to Gainesville this year," Trembley added. "But we will race hard and get a better look at their facilities before the conference championships in Gainesville three weeks after we return."
The Vols are looking a little healthier with the return of two of their top point scorers. Junior Casey Dauw is looking to build off his return last week with some more competition. Sophomore Jevon Tarantino is also looking to get stronger since his return to action two weeks ago since having an emergency appendectomy.
"Casey Dauw is healing daily, and we anticipate him racing in Gainesville," Trembley said.
This marks the 31st meeting between the schools in their storied histories of swimming and diving. The Vols hold a 18-12 lead over the Gators in the series.
