CHELSEA PEMBERTON AND KAITLIN BARGREEN NAMED CRCA ALL-AMERICANS

ANN ARBOR, Mich.
Having helped lead the Tennessee Lady Vol varsity eight shell to unprecedented success during the 2003-04 season, juniors Chelsea Pemberton and Kaitlin Bargreen were selected as All-Americans by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association on Thursday. Pemberton received first-team accolades, while Bargreen was named to the second team. The honor marks the second consecutive season in which the pair has earned CRCA All-America status, as Bargreen and Pemberton were first- and second-team members, respectively, in 2002-03.
The honors culminate an extraordinary season for UT's varsity eight shell. Last weekend, the crew finished 10th at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., marking the program's best-ever showing in the varsity eight competition at the event. Additionally, the squad earned a ranking of 10th in the final USRowing/CRCA Poll, the highest in the program's history.
Prior to the NCAA Championships, both Bargreen and Pemberton were named to the All-South Region First Team for the third straight season after helping guide Tennessee's top boat to a fourth-place finish in the Grand Final at the Lexus Sprints, marking the best-ever finish in school history.
The All-America award is designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria include meeting eligibility rules as defined by the athlete's institution, participating in at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat and the student-athlete's head coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.
The All-America first and second teams were selected by the regional chairpersons following the NCAA Championships from the rowers who had received All-Region first-team honors.
