Junior Teesha Ash (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and sophomore Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) were named to the 2004 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team at the 2004 NGCA Division I Women's Golf Banquet held at the Lodge and Conference Center at Grand National in Opelika, Ala., on Friday evening. The accolade is a first for both golfers and is the first such honor bestowed on a Lady Vol since Tina Schneeberger garnered similar recognition in 2001.
Overall, Tennessee has claimed 13 NGCA All-American Scholar certificates since placing a pair of golfers on the 1994 team with Katharina Larsson and Sofi Stromgren earning berths on the squad.
To be considered for the team, a player must have competed in over 50 percent of their squad's total number of tournaments played and must own a grade point average over 3.5.
Since freshmen and transfer students are also considered for the award, the NGCA will not release the entire team until July 1.
