McFadgon Named to AP All-SEC Team
March 09, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Tennessee's Scooter McFadgon was named to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference team it was announced Tuesday. McFadgon, who leads the Vols in scoring this season, was a second team selection.
McFadgon, who sat out last season after transferring from Memphis, enters this week's SEC Tournament in Atlanta third in the league's scoring race, averaging 18.1 point per game. He leads SEC in free throw percentage (.908) to rank among the nation's leaders. In SEC games, he averaged 19.1 to rank second in the league.
The Memphis junior scored a career-high 33 points in the Vols' overtime loss to Kentucky in Knoxville and recorded double figures in all but two games this season, including 11 games of 20 points or more.
McFadgon, who scored his 1,000-career point this season, poured in 30 or more points three times, including 31 in the season opener against Wofford--the most for a player making their UT debut since Bernard King tallied 42 against Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1974.
Mississippi State's Lawrence Roberts, who was the only unanimous first team selection, was named the AP SEC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Roberts' coach, Rick Stansbury, was named AP's SEC Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the league title.
Tennessee meets Alabama Thursday in the opening round of the SEC Tournament in Atlanta.
