The Tennessee rowing team will host its final competition in Knoxville this season, as the Orange and White face the Louisville Cardinals at 10 a.m., Sat., March 27, on Fort Loudoun Lake near the Lady Volunteer Boathouse.
The Lady Vols have opened the spring with two solid performances. On March 20, UT welcomed Minnesota to Knoxville and the 13th-ranked Tennessee Varsity 8+ boat of Erin Artz (cox.), Nicole Bold, Lauren Wells, Chelsea Pemberton, Kaitlin Bargreen, McKensie Craig, Dana Forbes, Sarah Hutcheson and Andrea Bagwell opened up a boat-length lead down the final 500m and took home the win with a time of 6:34.06. The victory allowed the V8+ squad to remain undefeated on the season after winning all three of their races over Notre Dame and eighth-ranked Michigan State on March 13.
Louisville, meanwhile, has become quite familiar with the waters of East Tennessee this spring, competing in three events in Oak Ridge as part of their spring training. Last weekend, the Cardinals won five of six races contested against Cincinatti and New Hampshire. A week earlier, UL took on Minnesota, dropping all three events in the Varsity 8+, Novice 8+ and second Varsity 8+.
Saturday's competition will mark the fourth consecutive year Louisville and UT have met on the waters of the Tennessee River. The Lady Vols looked dominant in the first two meetings between the schools, having won all four races in each of the meets. Last season, The Lady Volunteers took home the Varsity 8+ and second Novice 8+ crowns.
Although Saturday's meet marks Tennessee's final competition in Knoxville this season, the Lady Vols will be in action on Melton Hill Lake in nearby Oak Ridge twice later in the spring. Melton Hill Lake is the site of the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta from April 17-18 as well as the season's penultimate meet, the Lexus Central/Southern Region Sprints, hosted by the University of Tennessee from May 15-16.
