STARTING PITCHER NOTES RIVERA NAMED SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Right fielder Michael Rivera was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week after hitting .632 (12-for-19) and raising his average from .282 to .397. He is the first Vol since Chris Burke in 2001 to be named player of the week. The sophomore from Miami, Fla., batting from the No. 9 slot in the lineup, tied a career-high with four runs scored against Niagara. He led the Vols with eight runs scored and 12 hits. Rivera collected four multi-hit games during the five-game stretch while posting a .947 slugging average with a .650 on-base percentage. UP NEXT: Tennessee continues its four-game road swing at East Tennessee State, Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. The Vols then return home for eight straight games starting with Auburn, March 26-28. NATIONAL RANKINGS: Tennessee is ranked No. 19 by Collegiate Baseball. It was listed at No. 38 in College Baseball's preseason Top 40 and No. 46 in Baseball America's preseason top 50. OFFENSE NOTES:
PITCHING NOTES:
CROWE HOPS: Catcher Nick Crowe has thrown out 10 of the 20 runners attempting to steal on him for a 50 percent clip, leading the SEC. He has also been a clutch hitter, collecting eight of his 15 RBI with two out. IORG-INAL ELI: Eli Iorg leads the team with 11 multi-hit games while hitting safely in 15 of the 19 games. He has eight multi-hit games in his last 12. Twice this season he has reeled off four-straight multi-hit games. He leads the team in stolen bases (12) and triples (4) while being second in hits (28). STREAKIN': Michael Rivera is the current leader in the clubhouse with a career-high tying 10-game streak. Chris Kemp is on a season-long seven-game hitting streak, while Kyle Norrid is on a career-high six-game streak. Brian Cleveland and Josh Alley are next with five-game streaks. HOME COOKING: Tennessee has won a school-record 22 straight home games dating back to last season. The Vols are 16-0 this season following four three-game sweeps of Morehead State, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State and Siena, a doubleheader sweep of Niagara and a pair wins over Tennessee Tech and Lipscomb. UT has won its last eight home series and is 26-2 in its last 28 contests at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. PLAYING LONG BALL: Tennessee has hit 16 home runs through 19 games for an average 0.84 HR per game. It's a dramatic power rise after hitting just 37 in 55 games last year. Entering the year, the Vols had hit 75 home runs in their previous 110 games. BENCH PRODUCTION:
DELMONICO IS SIXTH ON SEC WINS CHART: Head coach Rod Delmonico moved into sole possession of sixth-place on the SEC career victories list following the Vols' 13-4 win over Tennessee Tech. He has 567 wins and now sets his sights on former Auburn coach Hal Baird who is fifth with 634 victories. In fact, Delmonico and Mississippi State's Ron Polk are the only active coaches in the league with more than 500 career victories. RECORDS AND NEAR RECORDS: The Vols tied numerous records and nearly set others in their series against Morehead State. The Vols set the record for most runs in a series with 54, while also setting the single-game victory margin at 28 in the 29-1 series finale win. UT was also hit-by-pitch five times in one game, tying a school mark. It also tied the school record for sac flies with three. Eric King tied the school record for runs in a game with five, while both Brian Cleveland and Nick Crowe matched the school standard for sac flies in a game with two. The eight doubles collected in the series finale was one shy of the school record, while the nine hits in a single inning was also one shy of the UT mark.
