Harris, a senior from Norcross, Georgia is a four-time All-America and two-time captain of the Track and Field team. He won the 2003 NCAA decathlon title with 8,061 points, becoming the fourth Tennessee decathlete in 12 years to take the NCAA title and the only four-time decathlon All-America in Tennessee history. Earlier this year, Harris won the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championship pentathlon title. This spring he scored 7,871 points to run away with the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championship decathlon title. Harris broke the 8,000-point barrier twice this season; quite an accomplishment because no other collegian cracked the 8,000-point plateau during the 2003 outdoor season. In addition to his athletic feats, the Vol captain received the inaugural Marine Corps Collegiate Athlete Leadership Award for his athletic and civic prowess.
Simpson, a senior marketing major from Collierville, has proven to be a solid performer in the pool and in the classroom. In 2003, Simpson qualified for the NCAA Championships for the fourth-straight season and earned All-America honors for his work on the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay squads. The co-captain also ranked seventh in scoring and won six individual dual-meet events for the Vols. Out of the pool, Simpson was named to his third consecutive SEC Academic Honor Roll, was honored with the Academic Achievement Award for having the highest GPA among all senior student-athletes and was named to the Verizon Academic All-America/District IV At Large Team. In 2001 and 2002 he was a CSCAA Academic All-American. Simpson received the Reagan Scholarship from the College of Business in 2002.
