INDIANAPOLIS - Although Tennessee's Varsity 8+ shell had wrapped up competition on Saturday with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Rowing Championships, the Lady Vols still had racing left on Sunday with the spares competition.
The Orange and White duo of junior Amy McIntosh and sophomore McKenzie Craig placed second in their spares heat with a time of 8:28.06 on the 2000-meter course. Brown edged out UT for first place in with a time of 8:25.00. Texas placed third, followed by Washington State, Princeton and Michigan. In the second spares heat, Boston University claimed victory with a time of 8:08.03.
The spares competition is not an officially sponsored NCAA event, however, the winners do have bragging rights to say they are the fastest pairs in the nation.
