Aqua Vols Complete American Short Course Championships

AUSTIN, Texas--The Tennessee swimmers competed in their last competition before the 2003 NCAA Championships this week as they wrapped up the American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas.
On Thursday, the first day of competition, the four-man squad of Lubrey Lim, Evan Fischer, David Zeman and Brad Duryea finished 11th in the 200 medley with a time of 1:35.13. In the 100 breaststroke, sophomore Thomas Clavier swam a 56.27, which was good enough for 10th place. Fischer, a junior, touched the wall for 17th-place in a time of 56.64. In the 100 butterfly, Lim finished 16th in a time of 50.52, while Clavier came in 18th with a 49.05.
Closing out day one was the Vols 400 freestyle relay squad of Paul Eder, Duryea, Lim and Zeman. The quintet touched the wall for 12th-place with a time of 3:08.89. On Friday, Zeman started the night off with a 19th-place finish in the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:51.25. Then Fischer placed-ninth in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:01.31.
The Vols finished day two with a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The foursome of Clavier, Lim, Eder and Duryea swam a time of 1:23.85.
On the final day of competition, Fischer placed 11th in the 200 I.M., Duryea finished 24th in the 100 freestyle and the 400 medley squad came in 10th-place.
Fischer's time of 1:51.88 in the 200 I.M. set a new lifetime best and is the fourth fastest time swum by a Volunteer this year. Duryea also added a lifetime best swim with his 46.44 effort in the 100 freestyle.
The 400 medley squad closed out the competition with a 10th-place finish. The quintet of Eder, Fischer, Lim and Duryea swam a time of 3:27.49.
Next up for the Volunteers is the 2003 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, March 27-29.
