In something of a counterbalancing act from the Vols' first-place perch in the USTCA Team Power Rankings, Tennessee slipped to fifth in this week's edition of the Trackwire 25, available on www.trackwire.com. After an idle weekend, Trackwire projects Tennessee to score 26 points at the NCAA Indoors in March.
The Trackwire 25 uses event leader lists and other factors to compile its power ranking, a prediction of the top 25 teams at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The bulk of Tennessee's points come from Trackwire's projected first-place finish for Gary Kikaya in the 400m dash, second and seventh-place finish for Jonathan Wade in the 60m and 200m dash, respectively, and Rocky Danners' third-place finish in the pole vault.
In a tribute to a lack of conference parity, the Southeastern Conference boasts six of the top seven and eight of the top 11 teams in the Trackwire 25. LSU and Arkansas stand at the fore with 62 and 57 points, respectively. Stanford's 32 points and Florida's 27 points also rank ahead of Tennessee's projected 26.
