SANGER FOURTH ON 3M AT GEORGIA INVITATIONAL

ATHENS, Ga.

Senior Jaime Sanger (Plymouth, Minn.) led the University of Tennessee Lady Vols by placing fourth in a 43-diver field on the three-meter springboard at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Friday.

Sanger's 11-dive total of 499.80 was less than one point behind third-place finisher Tracey Richardson of South Carolina, who scored 500.35. Lady Vol sophomore Lauryn McCalley (Moultrie, Ga.) also gave a strong performance for the Big Orange, as she grabbed sixth place with a score of 480.40.

"I am overall very pleased with Jaime's performance," Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "Lauryn was a bit inconsistent, but the competition was definitely good experience for us by allowing our divers to compete in the 11-dive format."

Also competing for the Lady Vols, junior Kylee Wells (Russiaville, Ind.) placed 20th with 414.15 points, freshman Ashley Showalter (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed 22nd with 403.55 and senior Stacy Binyon placed 33rd with 196.70.

The Georgia Diving Invitational will continue with the women's one-meter springboard on Saturday and the platform competition on Sunday.

Scores from the preliminary rounds at Georgia will carry over to UT's dual meets against South Carolina and Penn State on Jan. 11, because the divers will be away competing at the America's Cup Diving Meet in Bloomington, Ind., Jan. 7-12. In the three-meter, Tennessee placed first, second and fourth against Penn State, while grabbing the third and fourth places against USC.
