UT Swimming Well Represented at Fina World Cup

Two former Tennessee swimmers competed at the fifth stage of the 2002-03 Fina Swimming World Cup in Paris, France Jan. 17-18. Michael Gilliam and Jeremy McDonnell joined athletes from 46 countries to compete in the first main international competition of the new year in the French capital.
"These guys are out there competing and being very successful," UT head coach John Trembley said. "They train here in Knoxville with Tennessee Aquatics and they represented us very well."
Gilliam, a two-time NCAA Champion in the 100 backstroke, garnered a gold medal in the 50m backstroke and a bronze in the 100m backstroke. Gilliam finished the 50m with a time of 24.37. In the 100m, he placed third with a time of 53.18.
McDonnell, a former SEC Champion, finished fifth in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 27.70. In the 100m breaststroke, McDonnell placed sixth with a time of 1:01.24.
