Marcus Haislip is making a name for himself with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA?s Orlando Professional Summer League.
After scoring 24 points combined in the Bucks? first two games, Haislip, a first-round draft choice from Tennessee, scored 24 points to lead Milwaukee to a 92-73 rout of the Orlando Magic Thursday.
Haislip, the 13th pick in last month?s draft, connected on 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point distance against the Magic including a strong second quarter in which he scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting. Haislip?s spurt help the Bucks pull away from a 24-24 game after one period to a commanding 49-37 halftime advantage.
The Vols? first NBA Draft Lottery pick since Allan Houston, also grabbed six rebounds and a recorded an assist and a blocked shot in 30 minutes of action.
Milwaukee improved to 1-2 and Orlando dropped to 2-1.
Haislip scored 15 points in his Bucks?s summer debut in a 93-75 loss to Miami July 7 and scored nine points in a 69-67 loss to Detroit July 10.
Haislip, a 6-10 power forward prospect, decided in the spring to bypass his senior year at Tennessee following a season that saw him earn second-team All-SEC honors. After averaging just 5.8 points and 2.5 rebounds as a sophomore in 2001, Haislip blossomed as a junior, averaging 16.7 points and 6.7 rebounds.
The Orlando Summer Professional League is one of six summer pro leagues and runs from July 9-13. Six clubs are participating in the Orlando league--Detroit, Indiana, Miami, New Orleans, Orlando and Milwaukee.
