Phillip Jones and Sal Vilardo competed at the Moss Farms Diving Invitational in Moultrie, Ga. on Saturday and Sunday. Jones took top honors in the three-meter while Vilardo placed third on the 10-meter platform.
Jones scored 593.50 points, putting him in first place ahead of SEC Diver of the Year Clayton Moss (558.25). Vilardo also competed in the three-meter, finishing fourth with a score of 513.05.
"It was good to see Sal back in competition after a lengthy layoff due to injury," head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "Going against a strong field, he performed above my expectations on three-meter and somewhat inconsistently on platform which I anticipated, but I expect he'll be ready for the US Nationals at the end of July. Phil Jones continued to excel after a somewhat short amount of warm up and dominated the field with a consistent performance. Coming off of his training and excellent performance in Russia I am excited at his chances of performing well at the Summer Senior Nationals at the end of July."
