Skinns Tabbed SEC Golfer of the Week

Freshman David Skinns of the Tennessee men's golf team has been named the golfer of the week in the Southeastern Conference after his performance at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational (April 6-7). Skinns posted scores of 66-67-70--203 at the tournament to record his first-ever individual championship as a Vol, while leading the fifth-ranked Vols to their third team title of the season.
Skinns, from Lincoln, England, leads the Vols in stroke average with a 71.13 (8 events, 24 rounds). He also has recorded 16 rounds of par or better and six top 10 finishes. Those six top 10 finishes include a fifth-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate, a 10th-place finish at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions, a seventh-place finish at the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate, a second-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate, a second-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate and most recently his first-place finish at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational.
Skinns is the 13th-ranked individual in the nation by Golfweek Magazine and ranks fourth in the SEC in scoring average.
The Vol golfers will next be in action at the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championships, from April 19-21. For the second year in a row, the tournament will be held at The Seaside Course at Sea Island, Ga. Last year UT finished sixth with a score of 879.
