Junior Karl Jennings earned nods as the first Southeastern Conference Track Athlete of the Week of the 2002 outdoor season. The only Vol to win two individual events, Jennings led Tennessee to a convincing win at the Cal Invitational with his victories in the 110M hurdles and 400M hurdles.
Jennings, a Scotch Plains, N.J. native, won the 110M hurdles in a personal-best time and NCAA provisional qualifier 13.88. He also won the 400M hurdles in 51.90 to contribute valuable points to the Tennessee cause. After notching Cal Invitational gold, Tennessee continued its outdoor winning streak. The 2000 NCAA Championships marks the last team-scored outdoor meet the Vols didn't win. Jennings won his first All-America certificate with an overachieving fourth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this month to help the Vols to their first national indoor title.
