Volunteers Increase Lead in Trackwire Rankings

For the seventh consecutive
week, Tennessee stands atop the Trackwire collegiate rankings. In fact, the Volunteers
increased their lead to 14 points over the rest of the field in the Feb. 26 rankings.
Tennessee's 63 projected points stand as the most the Vols have ever rated
in the history of the Trackwire rankings. Arkansas stands second with 49 points.
LSU's 46 points garnered third. Alabama can be found close behind at fourth
with 44 points. Meanwhile, South Carolina climbed to a tie for sixth with 17 points
to give the SEC five teams in the top six.
Despite finishing second to Arkansas by a mere seven points at the SEC Indoors
last weekend, Webb and his staff believed that Tennessee had improved itself more
for nationals because of new people who stepped up with national-caliber marks
in the high jump, pole vault, 400M dash, 800M run and 4x400M relay. While just
a prognostication based on national leader lists and other factors, the most recent
addition of the Trackwire rankings seems to bear that out, as the Vols held 55
projected points to Arkansas' 49 before the SEC Indoors last week.
In other ranking news, after spending the majority of the indoor season in second
place, Tennessee moved back into the lead in the U.S. Track Coaches Association
Dual Meet Team Power Rankings after its SEC Indoor performance. The Vols have
295.45 points to lead second-place Alabama's 291.09 points. The rankings
are designed to measure team depth and quality performances in events across the
board.
