The fifth-ranked men's swimming and diving team completed the fifth day of the SEC Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. The Vols clinched five more NCAA "B" cut qualifying times, giving them a total of 12 entries. Tennessee did fall back one spot, moving into fourth place with a total of 337 points. UT trails Georgia (351), Florida (507) and first place Auburn (560).
Seniors Chris Stewart and Jeremy McDonnell finished fourth and fifth in the 100 breaststroke, swimming times fast enough for an NCAA "B" cut qualifying time. Fellow senior Justin Hoggatt also qualified for an NCAA "B" cut time with a 47.68 in the 100 butterfly.
Sophomore Andrew Bree clocked a time of 3:52.76 in the 400 I.M., good enough for sixth place and another NCAA "B" cut qualifying time. The 400 medley relay team of Simpson, Hoggatt, Stewart and Gueraldi swam to a third place finish and earned themselves an NCAA "B" cut qualifying time with a 3:13.35.
Other Vols scoring were Brett Tannhauser (200 free), Greg Simpson (100 back), Paulo Machado (100 back), Michael Gross (100 back), Josh Fulton (100 fly) and Matt Parrish (100 fly).
The swimming championships conclude on Saturday with the 200 butterfly, 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and the 400 freestyle relay. The preliminaries start at 11:30 a.m. ET, with the finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
