Tennessee will host the UT Diving Invitational Friday at the Student Aquatic Center. Divers from UT, Ohio State, Miami (Fla.) and Houston are set to compete.
The men's events will get underway at 3 p.m. with the three-meter, followed by the one-meter at 4:30 p.m.
"I am expecting strong performances from all our divers," head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "I'm really excited to compete against a school with as much tradition and enormous success as Ohio State."
The Vols have controlled the diving well this season. Against Kentucky, they swept both the one-meter and three-meter with Phillip Jones taking top honors, Sal Vilardo placing second and Jake Dorsey claiming third on both boards. Last week against LSU, Jones took the three-meter crown while Vilardo claimed top honors on the one-meter.
Ohio State coach Vince Panzano started his illustrious coaching career at Tennessee and was on the staff of the 1978 National Championship team before returning to his alma mater to run the diving program. Since coaching at OSU, he has produced a multitude of NCAA champions, All-Americas and three Olympians.
"Coach Panzano is a former Tennessee coach who has gone on to produce some outstanding divers," Parrington said. "It is always a pleasure to compete against somebody with his credentials."
