LADY VOLS OPEN REGULAR SEASON AGAINST KENTUCKY

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
The University of Tennessee women's swimming and diving team opens its regular season against SEC rival Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Student Aquatic Center.
The Lady Vols and Wildcats have squared off a total of 20 times, with Tennessee holding an 18-2 edge in the series history. Last year, UT defeated Kentucky by a score of 143-100 in Knoxville, while the Wildcats last claimed victory in 1999 by a margin of 124-121 in Knoxville. Kentucky recorded a dual-meet record of 3-6 last season, placed ninth at the SEC Championships and finished 41st at NCAAs.
The meet gets underway with the men's and women's one-meter springboard at 2:45 p.m., while swimming events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The Lady Vols travel to Baton Rouge, La., to face another foe from the SEC when they square off against LSU on Saturday, Nov. 2.
FRESHMEN LADY VOLS SHINE AT ORANGE VS. WHITE:
The Lady Vols held their Orange vs. White exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 12, with the White squad claiming a 188-101 victory. Freshman Noelle Bassi (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) shined in the meet, winning three individual events. Bassi claimed victory in the 1,000y free (10:20.26), the 200y fly (2:01.36) and the 100y fly (59.75). Fellow freshmen Jacque Fessel (Cincinnati, Ohio), Betsy Brockman (Batavia, Ohio) and Kara Boland (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) nabbed to wins each. Fessel placed first in the 100y and 200y back with times of 57.94 and 2:05.67, respectively, while Brockman won the 200y breast (2:23.74) and 200y IM (2:09.16), and Boland claimed the 200y free (1:54.47) and 500y free (5:04.00). Other Lady Vols earning wins in the meet included senior Bethany Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the 100y free, junior Taryn Ternent (Edenvale, South Africa) in the 50y free and freshman Danielle Lundy (Columbia, Md.) in the 100y breast. Sophomore Lauryn McCally (Moultrie, Ga.), a two-time All-American as a freshman, won both the one-meter (161.70) and three-meter (148.20) springboard events.
