LADY VOL ROWING OPENS FALL SEASON AT CHATTANOOGA

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
The University of Tennessee women's rowing team opens its fall season at the Chattanooga Head Race, Saturday, Oct. 12, on the Tennessee River at Chattanooga, Tenn. Competition gets underway with the championship eight race at 9 a.m.
Other races in which Lady Vol teams will compete are the championship double at 11 a.m., the championship pair at 1 p.m., the novice eight at 2:10 p.m. and the championship four at 3:30 p.m. Races start approximately three miles upstream of downtown Chattanooga and finish at Ross' Landing in front of the Tennessee Aquarium.
"Our goal at this event is to allow our athletes to get used to going through some race protocol," UT Head Coach Lisa Glenn said. "This is our first opportunity to really test everyone's vision as far as race details go. It will allow us to put our pieces together and make sure we're going through the right process. This weekend also serves as a great tune-up for a big race at the Head of the Charles next week."
The event is scheduled to include teams from Emory, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Tulane and UT-Chattanooga.
Next week, UT's Varsity 8+ will head to Boston for the prestigious Head of the Charles on Oct. 19-20, an event for which the Lady Vols qualified by claiming victory in the Club 8+ race last year. The rest of the Tennessee rowers, meanwhile, will remain in Knoxville as UT hosts the Head of the Tennessee on Oct. 19.
