Jan. 28, 2002
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
Winning by the slimmest of margins, junior All-American diver Jaime Sanger (Plymouth, Minn.) will be tonight's guest on Lady Vol Illustrated (Tonight, 7:30 p.m. on 99.1 FM or 990 AM or by clicking here to listen via the web) the weekly radio show dedicated to the teams and athletes of the Women's Athletics Department. Sanger, the reigning SEC Diver of the Year, is having another successful year on the boards as she is undefeated in her last three competitions off the 1m springboard. Her latest victory came on Saturday, as she recorded a six-dive total of 295.57 in a dual meet versus Arkansas. At that same event, she finished second behind teammate Lauryn McCalley in the 3m-springboard competition. The Lady Vol swimming and diving team is back in action again this weekend as it takes on the eight-ranked Florida Lady Gators at the Student Aquatic Center on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m.
Lady Vol Illustrated is divided into three segments. The first segment is a quick recap of the past week's athletic events for the Orange and White and a look ahead to that week's contests. In the second part of the show, one of the basketball coaches will come on the air to discuss the team and take questions from callers. The last segment features a Lady Vol athlete who will talk about her team and her life as a member of the Big Orange. This is the part of the show where the fans come into play. This season, in conjunction with utladyvols.com, listeners will be able to choose which athlete is featured during that third segment. A poll asking which Lady Vol should appear on the show will be found each week on the Lady Vol Illustrated page (just click on the link on the left side of the main page). The poll will close the morning of that week's show and the next round of voting will begin immediately.
The third segment of the Feb. 4th show will focus on the Lady Vol softball team, which will have wrapped up its first action of the 2002 season at the Louisville Slugger Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The nominees for Lady Vol Illustrated are senior first baseman Nicole Borg, junior pitcher Stephanie Humphrey, freshman first baseman/designated player Amber Rhinehart, junior third baseman Carissa Roustan and junior second baseman Blaine Teasley.
