KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
Junior University of Tennessee diver Stacy Binyon nabbed her first career victory as she took the platform title in an informal competition against the University of Arkansas on Friday at the UT Student Aquatic Center. The platform diving match up between the Lady Vols and the Lady'Backs served as a preview of the teams' Saturday swimming and diving dual meet.
Binyon scored a career-best 387.08 to take the crown ahead of Arkansas' Mandy Moore who tallied a total of 322.13. The solid effort moves the Southlake, Texas, native into third on the Lady Vols' all-time platform performers list for a nine-dive format.
Binyon was the lone UT diver competing against Moore, the only UA diver, after Tennessee's Kylee Wells and Arkansas' other platform diver were unable to compete due to illness.
"On a positive note in this informal, but official, competition, we were able to achieve our goals as Stacy dove with a great deal of confidence today," UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "This competition was judged in the same way the SEC Championships will be, so it will boost her confidence even more to post another strong, career-high performance in that situation."
The Tennessee divers will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26, in a dual meet against the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks at the UT Student Aquatic Center. The meet is slated for a noon start
