Tennessee vs. Georgia Jan. 12, 2002 - Stegman Coliseum, Athens, Ga. * Tennessee goes to 6-8 (1-2 SEC) on the season ... Georgia improves to 14-2 (3-0 SEC) ... Georgia has won the last three games in the series ... Tonight's game was the Vols' first league road game of the season after playing their first two at home last week.
* Ezra Williams' game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer continued a cruel trend for this year's Vols ... For Tennessee this season, the difference between being 6-8 on the year and 12-2 is a matter of 15 points and less than 11 seconds. Six of UT's eight losses this year have been decided by a combined total of 15 points.
Add Williams trey to this season's list of buzzer heartbreakers....
* Louisville's Reece Gaines hit a three-pointer for the lead with 1.8 seconds left in the game to give the Cardinals a 73-72 win. * West Virginia's Jonathan Hargett hit a three-pointer with 4.3 seconds remaining to give the Mountaineers a 74-72 victory. * UT's Thaydeus Holden had a three-pointer that would have tied the game at the buzzer rim out against Wisconsin. The Badgers took a 65-62 win in Madison. * Florida's Brett Nelson hit a long three-pointer with 3.1 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 94-94. The Gators went on to a 104-100 overtime win.
* Vincent Yarbrough, who scored 19 points, moved to No. 12 on the Vols' all-time scoring list tonight ... He now has 1450 for his UT career ... Yarbrough passed All-America Ron Widby (1432) on the Vols' all-time scoring chart tonight.
* Ron Slay led the Vols with 21 points and nine rebounds tonight ... Slay has scored at least 20 points the past three games for the first time in his UT career ... Slay has double figures in 10 games this season, including five of at least 20 points.
* Tennessee limited Georgia to a season-low 30 percent from the field, including just 28.6 percent in the second half (previous low was SMU's 35.5 percent) ... The Vols pulled down a season-high 52 rebounds against the Bulldogs ... Tennessee has 102 rebounds the past two games ... Georgia's 11 three-point field goals were the most recorded against the Vols this season, bettering 10 by Ole Miss and Florida.
* Tennessee travels to Mississippi State Wednesday in a 8 p.m. (EST) tipoff ...The Vols next home game is Jan. 19 against Syracuse (8 p.m.).
