Tennessee opens its 2001-2002
golf season Sept. 8-9 at the Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Golf
Tournament in Jonesborough, Tenn. The tournament will be played at The Ridges
Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,038 yards).
The field for the tournament includes: Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, East Tennessee
State, Houston, Kansas, North Carolina, North Florida, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, South
Carolina, Southern California, Tennessee, Texas Christian and Wake Forest.
Head Coach Jim Kelson sees this as a very competitive tournament which will demand
a good team effort to compete.
"This is a great field being played on a great course," Kelson said.
"We will have to be at our best to be competitive. The entire team has recently
shown they can shoot low scores, which is very encouraging. We need to continue
to post low numbers from practice and go out and prove it on the course."
The Vols competed in this tournament last year, posting scores of 290-288-304--882
to finish in 11th place.
The tournament is a 54 hole format with 36 being played on Saturday, and 18 on
Sunday.
