UT TENNIS DOUBLELY SUCCESSFUL IN DAY TWO AT ADIDAS

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.
The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer tennis team picked up all four of its doubles matches in the second day of competition at the 2001 Adidas Tournament at the Esmeralda Resort in Palm Springs, Calif. on Saturday.
The No. 5 ranked UT pair of Crystal Cleveland and Alison Ojeda advanced in the "A" doubles draw, defeating Engle and Colalio of Arizona State, 8-4. Also playing in the "A" draw, the Orange and White tandem of Agnes Wiski and Vilmarie Castellvi defeated Northwestern's Jackson and Petrutiu with an 8-4 decision.
In the "B" doubles draw, Kim Gates and Brooke Cordell got the better of Portland's Bessman and Inbic, while Ashley Robards and Majen Immink dealt Wisconsin's Gonzata and Rav an 8-2 setback.
Continuing in the "A" singles main draw, Castellvi upset Duke's Amanda Johnson, seeded third in the tournament, with a 6-2, 6-2 decision to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, Castellvi fell against Megan Bradley of UCLA, 7-5, 6-1. Ojeda also advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Lindsey Dawaf of Florida, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, before falling to UCLA's Sara Walker, 6-3, 7-5.
Cleveland handed Northwestern's Jessica Rush a 7-6, 6-4 setback to advance to the semifinals. She then dominated Ashley Burkett of Arizona State with a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Cleveland is yet to drop a set this fall and will try to keep that stretch alive Sunday in the event finals.
In consolation play, Immink, Cordell and Robards all picked up wins. Immink not only defeated Northwestern's Chrity Roemer, she also downed her teammate Robards in a 6-1, 6-1 tilt.
The tournament concludes on Sunday.
