Dewitz and Dickson Selected for NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships
August 02, 2001 | Men's Track
Annually NCAA postgraduate scholarships worth $5,000 are awarded nationally to 58 men and 58 women competing in all sports. Winners must possess at least a 3.0 GPA, have performed with distinction athletically and represented their university well on and off the field. In addition, the student-athletes must have exhausted their athletic eligibility and plan on pursuing full-time graduate study.
DeWitz, a native of East Wenatchee, Wash., earned a spot on the 2001 SEC Academic Honor Roll with a 3.95 GPA in psychology. DeWitz was named to the Knoxville News-Sentinel's All-SEC second team for his 2001 accomplishments specializing in the butterfly, individual medley and freestyle.
Dickson, a native of Kingsport, earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll courtesy of a 3.80 GPA in psychology. Dickson took seventh in the steeplechase at the SEC Outdoor Championships en route to Tennessee's first conference outdoor title in a decade.
The selection of DeWitz and Dickson runs Tennessee's all-time total of NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients to 12. In 1971, footballers Don Denbo and Tim Priest became the first Vols to receive the award.
