All-America sprinter Leonard Scott earned Southeastern Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors for his nation-leading and record-breaking efforts Saturday at the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The award was announced by the SEC office on Wednesday morning. This marks the third time since the beginning of the indoor season in January that Scott has won the award.
Scott ran a 10.13, his fastest wind-legal time ever, to win the 100M dash at the Baldy Castillo Invitational. Even more noteworthy, the 10.13 currently stands as the fastest time in the NCAA and an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Scott also ran the anchor leg on Tennessees NCAA-leading 39.00 4x100M relay win, another automatic qualifier. The time of 39.00 broke a 20-year-old school record set by Willie Gault, Jeff Phillips, Jason Grimes and Mike Miller.
The Vols enjoy a rare weekend off before hosting the Gatorade Track Classic April 6-7 at Tom Black Track.
