Tennessee Meets Kentucky In Swimming

Last season the Vols claimed a 135-103 victory in Knoxville. Brett Tannhauser won the 1000 and 500 freestyle events and the Vols claimed the top two spots in the 200 medley relay pace the scoring. Other winners included Ben Brink (200 I.M.), Joel Shapiro (200 fly), Michael Gilliam (100 free), Gabi Chereches (three-meter diving) and Ross Powells (200 back). Kentucky was lead in last season’s meet by Shaun Zitani (50 free), Macon White (200 free) and Aaron Kirkpatrick (one-meter diving).
Vols eye undefeated season
With a victory over Kentucky on Saturday, the Vols will claim their 14th
undefeated season since the program’s resurrection in 1968. The total of 11
wins would also be the most since 1988 when UT finished with a 12-1 record.
The Vols also won both invitational meets on the season. Only in 1991 and 1997
have the Vols finished undefeated in dual meets and invitational meets.
What’s ahead
Following the season’s final dual-meet with Kentucky, the Vols will focus on
the Southeastern Conference Championships to be held Jan 21.-24 in Tuscaloosa,
Ala.
