Tennessee Head Coach Buzz Peterson
"At 47-40, they went on a 10-5 run. We've got to quit giving teams opportunities to have runs. That and our missed free throws really hurt us.
"On the last play, the basket by Hargett, he pulled up for the shot that we wanted him to try, a three-pointer. Then it went in. A contested three-point shot won the game for them. We are a little bit snake bit. A freshman stepping up at a time like that is pretty impressive.
"A lot of heads in our dressing room are a little bit confused right now. They say the longer you stay in this business things like this are going to happen. We need this break. We'll come back on the 26th and maybe things will fall our way.
"I think we ought to win our home games. I still believe we can be a good team, but I thought we would be a little further along at this time. The injury took a toll on Slay. I feel we need to get some easy transition baskets. That's what is missing right now.
"Good teams don't let people have runs on them.
"Regarding the start of the second half with four players, there was confusion on the floor, and I take the blame for that."
West Virginia Head Coach Gale Catlett
"It was a heck of a game. We knew that with the players they had and Buzz coaching, it would go to the wire. It wouldn't be easy for us.
"We had some serious foul trouble. Grindstaff made a great play to get Moss' fifth foul. Then Oliver fouls out and I have my two seniors on the bench. That wasn't fun.
"I thought Haislip made a great shot over a 7-foot-1 guy. I thought our kids executed the last play very nicely. I thought we might get a back door. I didn't tell him to shoot a three. Hargett is a game player. He's been a winner all his life. The one thing that disappointed me was I thought Grindstaff had a good shot at the end. He might have taken it early. I thought he'd take another dribble and shoot over us."
