LADY VOL DIVERS COMPETE IN DUAL MEET AGAINST MIAMI

The University of Tennessee women's diving squad wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule on Monday, Dec. 17, with a dual meet against the University of Miami at the Norman Whitten Pool on the UM campus.
Junior All-American Jaime Sanger (Plymouth, Minn.) led the way for the Lady Vols with a first-place finish on the one-meter with a score of 275.55 and a runner-up mark of 259.35 on the three-meter. Sophomore Kylee Wells (Russiaville, Ind.) finished third on the one-meter with a tally of 242.93 while also taking third in the three-meter with a score of 237.00. Junior Stacy Binyon (Southlake, Texas) finished fourth on both boards with scores of 239.63 on the one-meter and 198.00 on the three-meter springboard.
"I was happy with Jaime's performance on the one-meter," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "On the three-meter, I was a little disappointed with the overall results, but we came in and dove in an unfamiliar pool in an unfamiliar setting, so that may explain some of it."
Miami's lone diver, freshman Melanie Rinaldi, finished second on the one-meter with a score of 264.08 and won the three-meter with a mark of 306.53. The meet was originally expected to pit two powerful diving teams against each other, but Miami's Katie Beth Bryant and Michelle Davison, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team, missed the competition because of injuries. Tennessee freshman Lauryn McCalley (Moultrie, Ga.) sat out of the action while completing her recovery from an illness.
The Lady Vols will continue their winter training trip in Florida until the end of the week before taking a holiday break. Competition resumes for the UT divers at the Georgia Invitational over the weekend of Jan. 4-6.
