The University of Tennessee women's diving team opened weekend action against the University of Houston by grabbing positions two through five in Friday's one-meter competition held at Tennessee's Student Aquatic Center.
Junior All-American Jaime Sanger (Plymouth, Minn.) led the way for the Lady Vols as she took second place with a score of 291.45 while freshman Lauryn McCalley (Moultrie, Ga.) grabbed third by posting a six-dive total of 266.47. Sophomore Kylee Wells (Russiaville, Ind.) nabbed fourth position with a 252.15 and junior Stacy Binyon (Southlake, Texas) rounded out the UT contingent in fifth with a score of 214.87. The overall winner of the one-meter competition was Houston sophomore and reigning NCAA Diver of the Year Yulia Pakhalina who posted a 327.52.
"Overall I was pleased with our performance this afternoon," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "We had a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes, but some really good things happened that we'd been needing to work on. It was great for our divers to compete against someone of such talent and experience as Yulia."
Tennessee's diving squad will continue their weekend action by competing in the three-meter springboard on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Student Aquatic Center
