* Tonight's game was the first for Tennessee under first-year head coach Buzz Peterson ... Peterson, a guard on North Carolina's 1982 national championship team, has previous head coaching stops at Appalachian State and Tulsa before taking over the UT program in April ... Tennessee Tech head coach Jeff Lebo also played for Dean Smith at North Carolina.
* Tennessee leads the series 18-1, including a 17-1 mark in Knoxville ... Tennessee Tech's only victory in the series was a 73-62 victory in the 1996-97 season ... Tonight's game was the season-opener for both teams.
* UT has won 36 straight non-conference games at Thompson-Boling Arena ... The Vols have a 42-5 mark at home since 1998.

UT opened up a 10-point lead (61-51) with 7:57 remaining ... Jon Higgins two free throws with 1:58 to go put the Vols up 70-60 ... Jenis Grindstaff's two free throws with 41 seconds to go gave the Vols a 72-63 advantage.
* After being held to just four points at halftime, senior forward Vincent Yarbrough scored 26 points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds tonight ... Yarbrough connected on 8-of-12 from the field in the second half .
* Junior guard Thaydeus Holden had an impressive UT debut tonight, scoring 16 points, connecting 6-of-10 rom the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point distance ... Holden scored a team-high 14 points in the first half ... The 6-0 Holden is a junior college transfer from Seward County (Kan.) Community College where he averaged 22.2 points per game last season.
* Redshirt freshman Brandon Crump scored 12 points in his first game as a Volunteer tonight ... Crump hit 6-of-7 from the field.
* Tennessee played tonight's game without the services of Ron Slay (leg), Andy Ikeakor (foot) and Marcus Haislip (academic suspension-fall semester)
* Tennessee travels to the Great Alaska Shootout to play Marquette Nov. 21 in a 1:45 a.m. (EST) tipoff from Anchorage.
