Vol Divers Complete First Day of Indiana Diving Invitational

The Tennessee divers finished a nine hour day at the Indiana Diving Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. Tennessee freshman Phillip Jones took the only top honors of the day for the Volunteers, winning the three-meter diving competition.
Jones scored 510.25 points in the preliminary round of the three-meter diving competition, putting him in third place. Sal Vilardo ended up in fifth place with a score of 489.20, while Jake Dorsey with 477.40 points was right behind him in sixth place. In the finals of the three meter, Jones took top honors with 577.60 points.
Fellow teammate Sal Vilardo finished fourth with a score of 511.90, while Dorsey placed sixth with 486.90 points.
Jones scored 309.55 points in the preliminary round of the one-meter competition, putting him in second place. Vilardo scored 209.75 points to give him fourth place, while Dorsey scored 267.80 points putting him in sixth. In the finals, Jones kept his position in second place with 353.85 points, while Vilardo and Dorsey switched positions. Dorsey scored 289.35 points moving him up to fourth and Vilardo scored 276.80 points, which dropped him to sixth.
"We had an extremely long day of competition," head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "We tried to simulate a long day like you would have at a championship event. We did that and my divers did a great job."
