Tennessee head coach Jim Kelson announced today the signing of John Brannen to a letter of intent to play golf for the Vols beginning in the fall of 2002.
Brannen, from Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Tenn., has competed in the AAA state tournament three times during his high school career. His top finish came his senior year, when he finished tied for second. His other finishes include a tie for fifth in 2000 and a tie for 20th in 1999.
Kelson looks forward to having Brannen sign with the Vols and feels he will be able to help the program.
"I am very excited that John has decided to attend the University of Tennessee," Kelson said.
"John is a very fine player who will undoubtedly help our program enormously. He possesses very good technique and, most importantly, has a fabulous work ethic."
Brannen will be the second from his family to play for the Vols. His father, James, played golf for the Vols from 1974-1977.
"We are proud that the Brannen's will be the first father-son tandem in the history of men's golf here at Tennessee," Kelson said.
