Vols in Second After First Day at Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga.-- The University of Tennessee men's golf team is currently in second place at the 2001 Carpet Capital Collegiate. The tournament is being held at The Farm Golf Club (Par 72, 6,906 yards). The Vols carded a score of 283 (5-under par).
Junior Ian Parnaby leads the Vols individual scores with a 68 to tie him for second place. Following Parnaby is junior Andrew Pratt and freshman David Skinns who are both tied for eighth with scores of 71. Senior Andrew Black (73) is tied for 15th and senior Jason Powell (79) is tied for 57th.
Tournament host and defending tournament champion Georgia Tech leads the tournament after the first day. The Yellow Jackets fired a team score of 280 (8-under par). Tennessee (283), Wake Forest (291), Clemson (294) and Auburn (296) round out the top five teams competing.
In the individual portion of the tournament, Dustin Bray of North Carolina is in first place with a score of 67 (5-under par). Parnaby of Tennessee and Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech are tied for second with scores of 68. D.J. Trahan of Clemson, Marco Trejos of ETSU and Chan Wongluekiet are tied for fourth with scores of 69.
The Vols will be in action again on Saturday with the second round of the tournament.
