Won Ironman Award at track banquet...Danners proved to be one of Tennessee's
most productive and versatile freshmen...Earned his spot in the NCAA Championships
by clearing a PR and provisional height of 17-9 1/4 to win the Olympic development
section of the pole vault at the Gatorade Twilight Meet (May 18) in Knoxville...Stands
eighth on Tennessee's all-time pole vault list with his 17-9 1/4...Danners
nearly scored and just missed All-America honors by finishing 10th by clearing
17-4 1/2 in his first NCAA Championships performance...Won the USATF Junior
National Championships with his 17-2 3/4 vault to earn a ticket to the World
Junior Championships...Danners claimed bronze, the only American to medal,
at the World Junior Championships in Santiago, Chile by vaulting 17-0 3/4...Was
one of several Vols who contributed an unselfish performance at the SEC Championships...At
the SECs, Danners sacrificed his pole vault height to run back and forth from
the 400M hurdles and the 4x100M relay to add points to the Tennessee cause
in each event...Danners finished the SEC pole vault competition tied for seventh
by clearing 16-2 3/4 despite splitting his pole vault time between three events...At
the SECs, Danners also finished the 400M hurdles in eighth after running a
52.44...He also ran a leg in the Vols' sixth-place 4x100M relay team at the
SECs...Cleared his first provisional pole vault height of the season, 17-7,
at the Knoxville Invitational (April 30) to finish second just two weeks after
he suffered a hand laceration requiring seven stitches when his pole snapped
at the Sea Ray Relays...Won the pole vault with 16-6 3/4 clearance and took
third in the 400M hurdles in 53.90 at the SEC Quad (April 1) in Auburn, Ala.
...Danners also served as Tennessee's co-high scorer with Hassaan Stamps by
scoring 16.75 points for the Vols at the SEC Quad...Earned third at the Florida
Relays (March 25) by jumping 16-11...Ran his 400M hurdles PR of 51.75 at the
National Invitational Team Championships (April 21) in Austin, Texas...Member
of Tennessee's second-place 4x400M relay team at the SEC Quad and the winning
4x400M relay team at the Hurricane Invitational (March 18)...Ran the second
leg of the third-place shuttle hurdle relay team (56.32) at the Penn Relays...Danners
competed in the 100M dash, 200M dash, 110M hurdles, 400M hurdles, 4x100M relay,
shuttle hurdle relay and triple jump at different times this season.
Indoor- Earned second-tie at the SEC Indoors by clearing 16-8 3/4...Leaped
16-7 1/2 to take third at the UT All-Comers Meet...Second at the Kroger Invitational
by clearing his indoor season-best 17-0...One of three Vols who served as
Tennessee high-scorers with 15 points at the SEC Quad in Lexington, Ky. ...At
the SEC Quad, Danners won the pole vault (16-8) and contributed sixth-place
finishes in the 200M dash (22.31) and triple jump (46-5 1/4) in only his second
week at Tennessee.
HIGH SCHOOL- Tabbed as an immediate impact signee...Soared to 17-1 to capture the Lone Star State's high school championship in the pole vault in 1999...A proficient hurdler, as well, Danners clocked in at 52.96 in the 400M hurdles and 37.01 in the 300M hurdles at Ellison High School.
