during the outdoor season...Cleared 7-4 1/2 at the Georgia Tech Invitational
(May 20), in his last meet before NCAAs, to win the high jump...Jumped 7-4
1/2 in back-to-back meets at the Florida Relays (March 25) and at the SEC
Quad (April 1) to earn an automatic qualifying mark and win both meets...Career-best
height of 7-4 1/2 is third-best all-time on the Tennessee high jump list...Tied
for seventh at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors for the second
time of his career...Cleared 7-2 1/4 at the NCAA Championships to contribute
a point to the Tennessee cause...Earned third at the SEC Outdoor Championships
(May 14) by jumping 7-3...After finishing the SEC high jump, Bell immediately
entered the javelin competition where he finished 10th with a mark of 170-11...Jumped
7-1 at the Sea Ray Relays (April 15) to finish third...Cleared 6-10 1/4 at
the National Invitational Team Championships in Austin, Texas (April 22) to
place eighth...Jumped 6-10 3/4 to finish eighth at the Penn Relays (April
29)...Rebounded to clear 7-3 and take second at the Knoxville Invitational
(April 30)...Posted his career-best javelin throw of 191-5 at the SEC Quad...No-heighted
at 7-2 1/2 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif., to miss his shot
at a spot on the Olympic team.
Indoor- Earned his best mark of the indoor season at the Kroger Invitational
in Blacksburg, Va., (Feb. 12) by clearing a provisional 7-3...Cleared 7-2
1/2 at the SEC Indoors in Fayetteville, Ark., (Feb. 27) to take third...Tied
for second by jumping 7-0 1/4 at the SEC Quad (Jan. 22)...Cleared 6-11 at
the UT All-Comers Meet (Feb. 18)...Took 14th after jumping 6-11 3/4 at the
NCAA Championships in Fayetteville (March 11).
1999- Earned All-America honors during the indoor season courtesy of his eighth-place, 7-2 1/2 finish in the high jump at the NCAA Indoors...Reached indoor season best of 7-3 at the SEC Championships to finish fifth...Took three high jump titles during the indoor season...High jump mark of 7-1 3/4 is the best mark by a Vol during the decathlon...Won the Virginia Tech Invitational with leap of 6-9 3/4 to start off season on right foot...Improved to 6-10 3/4 in his victory at the Tennessee/Indiana/Ohio State three-way meet...Claimed top honors at the Kroger Invitational at Virginia Tech with 6-11 effort...Placed third at the Cannon IV Classic by clearing 6-11...Bell's outdoor best came at the Sea Ray Relays when he soared to 7-3, good enough to qualify provisionally and finish second, first among collegiates...Placed seventh at the SEC Outdoor Championships with a mark of 6-11 1/2...Cleared 6-11 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish 17th...Named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
1998- Posted career-best high jump mark with 7-3 3/4 leap at SECs to stand fourth on Tennessee's all-time high jump record list...Won first collegiate meet of career at Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational...Took first at Indiana Meet...Ranks as world junior number four with career-best mark...Finished third at Tennessee Indoor Classic...Victorious at Raleigh Relays with jump of 7-0 1/2...Took first at LSU's Alumni Gold Meet with jump of 6-9 1/2...Finished second at SEC Outdoor Championships...Won the Gatorade Classic with leap of 7-1.
HIGH SCHOOL- Ranked as the nation's top high jumper after clearing 7-2 1/2 at the AAU Junior Olympics last year...Won junior national title with same mark...Won the 1996 AAU National Championship with a 7-0 jump.
